My Community 3rd Class

During the month of November, 3rd Class learned all about My Community in Ballyfermot. We spoke about the community and took a walk to the shops near school. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful shops to visit. We saws News Express, Londis, Lams, Spar, U Wear, Doyles, Tasty Treats, Butchers, Bank, Greengrocers.

We went on a visit to our local library and we had a workshop called ‘The Nature of Fairytales’. Boys and girls spoke about fairytales and got to make up a new story from the perspective of the animals in Little Red Riding Hood. We got to illustrate our story with the illustrators and we had a great time.

We went for a visit to our local Garda Station. We met Garda Kevin and Garda Ciaran at the station. Then we saw the U-18/ juvenile cell and then the adult cell. There was a bed, toilet, blanket and mirror. We went to the office and they showed us questions they ask people. Then, Kevin took our fingerprints and we got to take them home. We went to visit the camera room where we saw all the cameras. There is a 360 camera of Ballyfermot. We met Detective Mark in the interrogation room, where the Gardai ask people questions with their solicitor. We went into the Garda Van that brings prisoners to jail. We had a great time.
